W2RO believes in the development of Emerging Leaders. Our Emerging Leaders Limelight provides the changes to nominate an emerging leader within our industry.
 

These nominees aspire to become a future leader in the waste and recycling industry and exhibits high potential. They are driven, energetic, and already possess many leadership skills.
 

Nominations for the Limelight are open to all W2RO members and can be submitted either via self-nomination or nomination by others.

We are pleased to introduce you to our 2025 Emerging Leaders!

 

Jenn Packer, Director of Environmental Sustainability, GFL

At GFL, Jenn leads initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing sustainability practices across the organization. Her expertise encompasses greenhouse gas forecasting, net zero strategy development, and sustainability data management. Before joining GFL, Jenn held environmental engineering roles at GHD and WSP, where she developed deep expertise in greenhouse gas emissions monitoring, regulatory compliance, and environmental consulting. Jenn has sat on multiple public advisory boards and committees and is an active volunteer in her community.

 

Katie Sheridan, Process Leader, Convertus Group

Katie Sheridan is the Process Leader at Convertus Ottawa, where she oversees the efficient processing of the city’s organic waste. With degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry, Katie has a solid technical background, which she previously applied as a Process EIT at a pyrotechnics company. Katie is passionate about waste diversion and is dedicated to making a positive environmental impact through her work at Convertus.

 

Kyle Savoie, Operations Manager – Residential, Region of Peel

Kyle Savoie is a seasoned professional with a distinguished 11-year collective tenure at Miller Waste Systems, including seven years dedicated to the Markham yard. Kyle's career began in the trucking and the driving industry, where he honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of operations and organization.
 

In 2021, Kyle transitioned into management, bringing his direct experience and strategic mindset to his role as Assistant Operations Manager in the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) sector.
 

An avid outdoors person, Kyle enjoys fishing and golfing in his leisure time. Kyle has been happily married for 15 years and is a proud father of three children: a bright and funny autistic 7-year-old, an athletic and adventurous 5-year-old, and a spunky 9-month-old baby girl. Kyle's family is a source of immense joy and inspiration, and he takes pride in balancing his professional and personal responsibilities.

 

Matthew Stevens, Team Lead – Household Hazardous Waste, Region of Peel

Matt Stevens serves as the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Team Lead at the Region of Peel, a dynamic municipal government organization responsible for providing essential services to over 1.5 million residents across Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon.

In his role, Matt oversees the operations of the HHW depot, ensuring the safe and efficient collection, recycling, and disposal of hazardous materials


Beyond his work at the Region, Matt is actively involved in several key industry associations, including the North American Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) and the Municipal Waste Association (MWA). He has supported Waste to Resource Ontario (W2RO) by delivering HHW training seminars and is a contributing member of the Lithium-Ion Battery Working Group, promoting safe handling practices for emerging waste streams.
